Area Two Sours

When it comes to alcohol, I am generally not too picky. When I do grab a casual beer with friends at the local dive spot, I’m pretty happy with a BlueMoon or Shocktop. If I really want to spoil myself, there are a few good Hefenwizens out there, but honestly, I can’t tell any difference between ten dollar and a hundred dollar wines or spirits so I never bother spending money on “the good stuff”.

But if there is one type of drink I can be picky about, it is sours. I love a good sour beer and have spent some time trying different types and really finding the ones I really like. And there is no better brewery for sours than Area Two from Two Roads Brewery in Stratford, Connecticut.

The story behind these delicious brews is pretty great. Brad Hittle founded Two Roads Brewery in 2012, and like any good business owner, started by brewing what people wanted: IPAs mostly with a fun mix of other craft beers. But his real passion was in sours. And as soon as Brad had established Two Roads and had the capital, he built another brewery, Area Two, dedicated to brewing only sours.

Area Two is the mecha for all sour enthusiasts. They take their sours very seriously and the range and selection is second to none. Far and away my favorite is Passion Fruit Gose, but honestly, everything in their Tanker Truck Sour Series is phenomenal. So much character and flavor without being too sour.

Not only does Two Roads make good beers, but if you ever have the time to travel to Stratford, both the breweries are open for tours, tastings, and events. You can not only come taste their established brews, but also experimental flavors, all while eating some of the best food truck food in the state. They also host music or movie nights, outside when the weather is nice, that can be a great way to spend a weekend.

So if you’re like me and like to enjoy a good craft beer from time to time, especially sours, I highly recommend making the pilgrimage to the Two Roads Breweries in Stratford, Connecticut. And if you see some Two Roads beers on the shelf the next time you make a beer run, give them a try.
